Receiving Ramadan

Ramadan is finally here and Alhamdulillah, All praise to Allah for His Grace in granting us the opportunity to greet and celebrate this blessed month again, the master of all months in which gifts constantly pour forth from the ocean of divine generosity.

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once mentioned Ramadan and said out of veneration : “Do they realise what is coming to them and what they are receiving?” The believer should reflect upon his connection with his Lord, the One who has made this month an opportunity for him to receive His gifts and His forgiveness.

According to Sayyid Habib Umar bin Hafiz, we should receive Ramadan in three ways.

  • We should feel joy upon its arrival.
  • We should be wary of things that prevent us from attaining the gifts that are bestowed by Allah in Ramadan.
  • We should strive to do good deeds to the best of our ability, for Ramadan is an opportunity to take provision and to gain great rewards.

May Allah grants us His Grace and helps us by giving ease in our ibadah to make the most of this blessed month!

Sya’aban – the month of nurturing

bulan-syakban_20180417_203059

Sya’aban has arrived and Ramadan is just another month away. Now is the time to conscientiously water and nurture the seeds of iman and taqwa that we have planted in Rajab, so that by the time Ramadan comes, we are ready to rise up to the challenge of fasting. Not only do we refrain from food and drink from dawn to dusk, we also “fast” by watching our every action, doing whatever that pleases Allah and avoiding anything that may incur His wrath.

Hence, let’s fill our days in Sya’aban with prayers and zikr, fasting and reading the Quran as much as possible. InsyaAllah, may our efforts to prepare ourselves for Ramadan be rewarded with boundless blessings during the coming holy month!

Our feature book for the months running up to Ramadan is My First Book About the Quran, a board book for toddlers and young children. It is the perfect introduction to the teachings of the Quran for them to appreciate what the Quran is all about.

Tell Me About the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

muhammad_0

This book presents the life of the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace, from his childhood in the desert to his divine mission and early preaching in Makkah. It goes on to describe the hostility of Makkans towards his message, their total boycott of him and his family, the Night Journey to seven heavens and the migration from Makkah to Madinah. In Madinah he was welcomed and lived there for ten years teaching and calling people to the divine truth. His life went through stages of poverty, prosperity, defeat and success. Yet whatever his state of well-being or hardship, he never once strayed from the path of moderation. At all times, and right till the end, he remained the patient and grateful servant of the Almighty, bringing his message of peace and truth to all mankind.

The focus throughout the book is on the spirit of the Prophet’s teachings, and on the lessons that should be derived from it for our daily lives. These exciting historical events are presented in a simple, informative style, with beautiful illustrations, so that young people may understand and enjoy them. This book is a useful tool for every Muslim parent who wish to inculcate the love of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. in their children.

I’m Learning About Eid-ul-Fitr

eidulfitr

Farah and Faisal were very excited. They were looking forward to celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr after a month-long of fasting in Ramadan.

After maghrib prayers, their family went to a park where the sky was clear. Many families had gathered there to see the new moon. Everyone was thrilled to see a very thin crescent moon in the night sky. “Eid Mubarak, Have a happy and Blessed Eid!”, they greeted each other.

This book tells the story of two young children living in London, and how they celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.  They visited the mosque at Regent’s Park on the morning of Eid and paid zakat fitrah. After the Eid prayers, they met many friends dressed in their best clothes. They embraced one another with the greeting “Eid Mubarak!” Outside the mosque, there were stalls selling food and drinks and everyone was in the mood of celebration. They even stopped by to enjoy carnival rides at a park.

Back at home that afternoon, their father explained to them that Eid-ul-Fitr is a day to remember and glorify Allah and thank Him for all the blessings that He has bestowed upon them. Allahu Akbar!

Learning points :

Throughout the book, the author has inserted simple daily duas, such as “Dua after a meal” and “Dua for parents”,  that children can learn to memorise and practise in their daily lives.
